Wedding Speech Etiquette

Is there a time limit on the toast? How do you tastefully exclude someone who does not want to make a speech?

Our Thoughts

In general, a wedding toast or speech should only last a few minutes. This means anything over about 3 minutes is too long, and you run the risk of losing everyone’s attention.

Typically, the best man and maid or matron of honor will give a speech or toast at the wedding reception. Other people, like parents or grandparents, may also want to say a few words.

If someone really doesn’t want to give a speech, simply skip them. Try not to point it out and make it embarrassing for the person.
