There is no formal wedding etiquette as to who would purchase the cake knife and serving set. So, it truly is open to anyone who is attending your bridal shower to purchase.

Just make sure if it is an item that is very important to you and you do not receive it that you go a purchase the heirloom for yourself to have and show off at your wedding reception.
